Undertrial killed in shootout
Staff Reporter
ELURU:
An undertrial prisoner, Vasudeva Krishna Prasad (31), of Rajahmundry, was killed in a shootout by the police at Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district on Wednesday.
The shootout occurred on the premises of the Judicial Magistrate's Court when the prisoner made a futile attempt to escape from police custody before the trial. Superintendent of Police M. Jaganmohan Reddy said Manepalli Albert Israel Saldana, an Armed Reserve head constable, based in Eluru, who was on escort duties, reportedly opened fire in self-defence, leading to the death of the prisoner.
