Staff Reporter

Ranganathan promises to reduce traffic congestion in Ambattur

  • Widening seven existing roads to 80 or 100 feet and connecting with Poonamallee High Road are in his agenda
  • A bridge at Thirumangalam junction also part of his plans to develop his constituency

CHENNAI : The Villivakkam MLA, B. Ranganathan, has promised his constituents that he would submit proposals to the Highways authorities to reduce traffic congestion by widening seven roads in Ambattur.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Government Tax Payers and Bill Payers Association in Ambattur on Tuesday evening, he said that widening seven existing roads to 80 or 100 feet and connecting them with the Poonamallee High Road would ensure that heavy traffic could bypass interior roads in Ambattur. The seven routes he proposed for widening include the Thirumangalam Main Road towards Padikuppam Main Road, the currently unnamed Triple M Hospital Road, Valluvar Salai, Eri Scheme Road, Reddypalayam Road, the Athipattu-Vanagaram route and the Ayanambakkam-Thiruverkadu route. Some of these, including the first two routes, will require bridges across the Cooum to reach the Poonamallee High Road. A bridge at Thirumangalam junction is also part of his plans to develop his constituency.

He accused private individuals and colleges of having encroached on government land in Ambattur and asked the assembled representatives of residents' welfare organisations to protest against such encroachments.

A bus stop near the Ambattur Uzhavar Sandhai (Ambattur Farmers Market), building a Government Boys High School in Ambattur, provision of electric crematorium and providing a timeframe for the completion of the underground drainage project in the Municipality were some of the issues presented.

    Ration cards awaited

Association representatives said that more than 20,000 residents in Ambattur were waiting for ration cards to be issued to them.

Mr. Ranganathan said that he would ensure that all those with valid applications received their cards.
