HYDERABAD: Two alert traffic police constables on Wednesday helped recover Rs. 98,000, which were stolen from a bus passenger at Nallakunta. A doctor, Subhash Chander, 58, of Mancherial boarded a city bus (no. 107) at Sri Ramana theatre in Amberpet to go to Bowenpally. The doctor kept a bundle of 100 notes of Rs. 1,000 denomination in the left side pocket of his trousers. On reaching Lucky crossroads at Vidyanagar, he realised that the cash was stolen and raised an alarm forcing the driver to stop the bus. The shocked old man saw a person running away and boarding an autorickshaw in which three persons were already sitting. He noted the vehicle's number and lodged a complaint with the Nallakunta police. K. Yadagiri and Mohd. Iqbal of Falaknuma traffic police station were on duty near Shahalibanda petrol bunk when they received the message about the theft. They spotted the three-wheeler (no. AP 11V 4114) going into the bunk apparently for filling petrol. Apparently startled by the constable duo's reaction, the offenders tried to flee. As the chasing constables came close, three of them jumped out of the vehicle and managed to give a slip. The policemen ran after the vehicle and caught hold of the driver and handed him over to a team of Nallakunta police. Based on his confession, police picked up Syed Mustaq from Bhavaninagar and recovered Rs. 98,000 from him.
