Taking Bollywood to exotic locales

"Locations Exhibitions Conference", a curtain raiser on the world's first film tourism event, was held in the Capital on Wednesday.

Facilitating interaction between Consulates-General, foreign delegates and Bollywood's who's who to promote shooting of Hindi films in exotic locales across the globe, the two-day annual exhibition-cum-conference will begin in Mumbai on June 21.

According to Locations, there has been a spurt in the number of Indian tourists visiting countries where Hindi films have been shot.

To prove their point, the organisers screened a short film on the occasion showcasing scenes from Bollywood films shot in foreign locales featuring actors of yesteryears like Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Mehmood and also contemporary stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan. And these locales have now become major attractions for Indian tourists.

Ambassadors of several countries were also present on the occasion.

"Through our annual events, about 20 to 25 Hindi films have been shot abroad. In 2004, after negotiations at our show, two Bollywood films were shot in Malaysia and two in Mauritius. During the upcoming event in Mumbai, we will set up stalls and also have a half-hour presentation of films by foreign delegates. This year's theme will be `Tourism as Product Placement in Indian Films'," said Locations Director Sudhanshu Hukku.

The event will also promote Indian tourist destinations to Hollywood producers and also offer a platform to television and advertisement producers to scout for interesting locations for their shootings. -- Madhur Tankha
