Sangeeth Kurian

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The websites of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which published the SSLC result, have received nearly 20 lakh visits in the last one-week.

The response is the highest ever recorded since the sites, keralaresults.nic.in and results.kerala.nic.in, were launched nearly three years ago.

Out of this, more than 20,000 pageviews came around 11 a.m., on May 25, the time the results were formally announced by Education Minister M.A. Baby.

Wireless browsers

This shows a significant growth in the number of users who rely on wireless browsers such as mobile phones with internet facilities for accessing the sites. The number of users who registered with NIC for receiving the results via e-mail also doubled from 27,000 in 2005 to 60,478 this year.

Source

According to NIC officials, the response evoked is all the more significant as the sites, on an average receive only around 1,000 visits a month. The sites function as a single point source for results of various examinations conducted in the country.

The sites are being extensively used by students, teachers and parents from all over the country and abroad.

The sites also contain information on various universities apart from providing links to professional and technical education.

While a majority of the visitors, nearly 82 per cent, were from the country, the remaining 18 per cent were from United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Singapore, United States of America, Kuwait, United Kingdom, Oman, Qatar and Italy.

In visits from foreign countries, Saudi Arabia topped the list with 4,772 hits followed by America (3,360) and Singapore (150).

A four-member team comprising Asha Varma, Indu Sekhar M.S., Gita Brajesh and Twinkle George headed by V.S. Raghunathan, State Informatics Officer supervised the functioning of the sites.
