Medical services affected in private hospitals

Doctors, students go on strike in Gulbarga

GULBARGA: Medical services in the private sector in Gulbarga were affected on Thursday following the strike by doctors and undergraduate and postgraduate students of two medical colleges and a dental college in the city.

The strike was called by the Junior Doctors Association and the Indian Medical Association in protest against Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey's refusal to accept their memorandum during the anti-reservation agitation.

The medical students, who took out a rally on Monday last, wanted the Deputy Commissioner to accept the memorandum but the official, who was engaged in receiving nomination papers for the Legislative Council elections to the North East Graduates Constituency, deputed the Headquarters Assistant Ravi Kiran Vanti to receive the memorandum.

Work in all private hospitals was affected with outpatient departments remaining closed for the day. Only emergency services were available in the hospitals.
