KOLKATA : The top seed Abhijit Gupta won two rounds in the premier section (under-25) to jump into lead (5.5 points) but then withdrew from the Chess for Youth championship here on Thursday, owing to a bereavement in his family. By default, Saptarshi Roy, on five points, will occupy the top spot in the next round. Abhijit first beat overnight leader and junior National girls' champion, Soumya Swaminathan of Pune and then defeated Arghyadip Das when the news of the demise of his uncle reached him. Important results: Premier (under-25) section: Sixth round: Arghyadip Das (4) lost to Abhijit Gupta (5.5); Saptarshi Roy (5) bt Deep Sengupta (4); Soumya Swaminathan (4) lost to Debaditya Sinha Biswas (4.5); Punit Jaiswal (4) bt Santu Mondal (3); Joydeep Dutta (3.5) drew Abhratanu Dutta (3.5). Fifth round: Gupta (4.5) bt Soumya (4); Deep (4) bt Soumya Thakurtha (4); Debayan Majumdar (3) lost to Arghyadip Das (4); Saptarshi Roy (4) bt Punit Jaiswal (3).
