A timely show
An exhibition on Neelakkurinji being held at the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) hall in Malappuram has become an eye-opener for many a nature lover. Organised by the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI), the exhibition has 50-odd photographs depicting the Neelakkurinji in full bloom and the breathtaking beauty of the Western Ghats. The show will continue on Friday.
Most photos were taken by a group of young enthusiasts when the Neelakkurinji bloomed last in 1994. After 12 years, we can see the Neelakkuriji bloom in a few weeks.
Apart from introducing this rare plant endemic to the Western Ghats, the exhibition also invokes the consciousness of the people against the destruction of the ecosystem.
