CHENNAI:
Former AIADMK Minister K. Pandurangan, against whom the Secretariat police registered a case on Wednesday, surrendered in a magistrate court on Thursday. He was immediately released on bail.
Inspector Vasanthan, who lodged the complaint against Mr. Pandurangan, alleged that the former Minister committed offences such as wrongful restraint and use of force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty.
On Thursday afternoon, the former Minister surrendered before the VII Metropolitan Magistrate, who granted him bail forthwith.
Later, Mr. Pandurangan told newspersons that he came to know about registration of the case only through media reports. As a law-abiding citizen he chose to surrender before the magistrate, he said, adding that foisting cases would not deter AIADMK cadres from opposing the "minority Government." Maintaining that there was no truth in the complaint, he said it was yet another attempt to gag the voice of the Opposition.
