Panels to be formed to enumerate the poor
The panchayat president, village administrative officer, school headmaster and health worker would form the panel at the village level. At the town, municipality and corporation level, the ward member, bill collector, revenue officer and school headmaster would be on the panel. This was decided at a meeting convened by the Chief Minister at the Secretariat. Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin, State Planning Commission Vice-Chairman M. Naganathan, and officials including Chief Secretary L.N. Tripathy, Finance Secretary K. Gnanadesikan, and Revenue Administration Commissioner R. Santhanam were among those who participated. A committee headed by the Chief Secretary would draw up tender specifications and eligibility criterion in a week. The others in the committee are: Finance Secretary, Revenue Secretary, IT Secretary, Revenue Administration Commissioner, Rural Development Department Secretary and Municipal Administration Secretary. Performance of banking system reviewed
According to a press release, total deposits of the banks in Tamil Nadu registered an increase of 15.16 per cent during the one-year period from January 2005 to December and touched the level of Rs.116912.28 crore. In terms of deployment of credit, an increase of 31.21 per cent was recorded during the same period and the aggregate bank credit amounted to Rs.118677.78 crore as at the end of December 2005. Tamil Nadu has recorded the highest credit deployment ratio of 102 per cent as on December 2005 leaving behind States like Maharashtra. During 2005-06, banks in Tamil Nadu have disbursed Rs.12,446 crore as agricultural advances under special farm credit policy/package exceeding the target of Rs.12345 crore. For the current year of 2006-07, the annual credit plan by banks in Tamil Nadu envisaged credit flow of Rs.15250.07 crore to agriculture, allocating the lion's share of the total credit outlay of Rs.26702.74 crore.
