BELLARY: The general body of the zilla panchayat, which met here on Wednesday following allegations of corruption, decided to review the transfer of primary and high school teachers. Durgamma, zilla panchayat president, chaired the meeting. Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Srinivas had completed the process of transfers through counselling. In all, 210 teachers out of 1,384 who applied were sanctioned transfers. Members expressed concern over the manner in which the transfers were sanctioned. They alleged that money had exchanged hands in the process.
Charges denied
Denying the charge, Mr. Srinivas said the transfer were sanctioned through counselling and done with the help of a software provided by the Government and there was no scope for any violation. According to him, some teachers may be disappointed with their posting. Members informed the meeting that many teachers had told them that transfers were given only on payment of money . Vice-president of the zilla panchayat K.A. Ramalingappa said the transfers would be reviewed and if the accusations were found to be true, the Government would be requested to cancel the transfers and arrange for recounselling. The general body endorsed this suggestion. Rudragowda, chairman of the Standing Committee on Education and Health, K.S.L. Swamy, MLC, Surya Babu, president of the Hagari Bommanahalli taluk panchayat, Pushpa Rekha, Akki Thotesh, and Mallikarjunaiah participated in the discussion.
