Freedom fighter passes away

JAIPUR: Eminent freedom fighter and former MLA Narendrapal Singh Choudhary died in Nathadwara town earlier this week. An associate of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Mr. Choudhary was 104. He is survived by two sons and five daughters.

Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Assembly Speaker Sumitra Singh have condoled Mr. Choudhary's death. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, National Commission for Women Chairperson Girija Vyas, Rajasthan Minister Surendra Singh Rathoreand Congress leaders Gulab Singh Shaktawat and C.P.Joshi were among those who attended the funeral on Wednesday in Nathadwara.

Mr. Choudhary is remembered for his past association with the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Nehru, as well as Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan. In 1946, Pandit Nehru himself went to inaugurate Modern School founded by Mr. Choudhary in Nathadwara. He was one of the participants of the Dandi March led by Mahatma Gandhi. Interestingly, Mr. Choudhary also participated in the re-enactment of the Dandi March by the Congress last year.
