Bank donates tricycles to charitable trust for the handicapped

Scheme under Community Services Banking of State Bank of India

CHENNAI: State Bank of India donated 15 tricycles and one colour laser jet printer to members of Tamil Nadu Handicapped Federation Charitable Trust, on Tuesday.

The tricycles have been built to carry a drum also, with the aim of enabling the beneficiaries to eke out a living by selling beverages.

The project falls under the ambit of Community Services Banking. P. Pradeep Kumar, General Manager (Network 2) and Ram Krishna Garg, General Manager (Network 1) of SBI Chennai circle, handed over the tricycles and the printer at the bank's local head office in Nungambakkam.

G. Chidambaranathan, president of Tamil Nadu Handicapped Federation Charitable Trust, was also present.

The total cost of the project was Rs. 1.47 lakh, said Mr. Pradeep Kumar.

One per cent each year

Every year one per cent of the bank's profit is set aside for projects to help the downtrodden, he said.

Last year the bank helped to fund projects worth Rs. 63 lakh in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry alone, he said.
