`Telescopic benefits' restored
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Ministry of Railways announced restoration of the "Telescopic benefits" in end-to-end fares with effect from June 15.
"The Telescopic benefits available to the passengers earlier were withdrawn on 1st April, 2006. These benefits have now been restored with effect from 15th June, 2006 on public demand," the Ministry said, announcing the decision. Prior to April 2006, passengers using the computerised passenger reservation system were permitted to purchase tickets for stations even beyond the destination station of the train, availing telescopic benefits on the fare.
For example, a passenger could purchase a ticket from New Delhi to Madurai, travel up to Chennai by a direct train and subsequently by another train to Madurai.
