Governor urged to check crime cases

Congress leaders meet T.V. Rajeshwar

Lucknow: A delegation of Congress leaders led by Salman Khursheed on Thursday met Uttar Pradesh Governor T.V. Rajeshwar and demanded his intervention to control the deteriorating law and order condition in the State.

Citing recent incidents in which UP police personnel had been beaten up, PCC president Salman Khursheed said that if police officers were not safe, one could only imagine the plight of the common man in the State.

Mr. Khursheed alleged that incidents like the recent gang-rape of a minor in Mahoba district only served to `show the reality' of Uttar Pradesh governed by the Samajwadi Party.

Prime lands

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari claimed that after selling prime lands to industrialists, those holding posts in the State Government were now eyeing land allotted to graveyards.

He also urged the Governor to conduct an inquiry into the alleged kidnapping of a Congress leader in Lucknow after he reportedly resisted incidents of land-grabbing in the city. -- PTI
