KURNOOL: A panel of officials, which investigated the quality of water supplied to the city through the municipal water supply system, warned of harmful organisms slipping through the filtration system. The panel found high bacterial load in the raw water collected from the summer storage tank. Even after filtration, harmful bacteria like e-coli was present. The organism disappeared only after chlorination of the water. Superintending Engineer of Rural Water Supply Krishna Murthy told a review meeting recently that no bacterial organisms should be found after filtration. Chlorination should be done as a preventive step. The presence of harmful organism indicated the failure of filtration system, which needed immediate repairs. The Municipal Corporation faced a peculiar problem this year due to contamination of source. After drawing water stocked in KC Canal, the summer storage tank was also contaminated turning the colour into green.
