New Director of Factories and Boilers

Bangalore: H. Srinivasaiah has been appointed Director of Factories and Boilers, Government of Karnataka, from June 1. He takes over from K.G. Krishnappa, who has retired. Mr. Srinivasaiah has been with the department since 1978 and has worked in various capacities. — Special Correspondent

Body of sixth missing fisherman recovered

Udupi: The body of the last of the six fishermen who drowned in rough seas was found at Koditale in Udupi district on Thursday.

Udupi tahsildar K. Muralidhar said the body of Shivananda, a resident of Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district, aged about 19, was found on the Koditale beach. With this, the bodies of all the six fishermen who went missing on Monday have been found.

Erosion has been reported from places such as Mattu and Gujjarbettu, he said.

The average rainfall in Udupi district in the 24 hours till 8 a.m. on Thursday was 140 mm. Udupi taluk received 128.4 mm of rain, Kundapur taluk 133.2 mm and Karkala taluk 158.4 mm. — Staff Correspondent

Skeletons of missing couple found

BIJAPUR: Two skeletons were found in a forest on the outskirts of Itagi village in Basavanabagewadi taluk on Wednesday.

They are thought to be those of Mallaiah Hiremath, 35, and his wife, Bhagyashri, 30, who were reported missing since May 15. Police identified the bodies with the help of family members. Wild animals had eaten the flesh and scattered the bones, the police said. Primary investigation suggested that they had consumed poison. The Kolhar police are investigating.

Birth centenary celebrations

Bangalore: The birth centenary of Pandit Basavraj Mansur will be celebrated at the Malikarjum Mansur Kala Bhavan at Dharwad in the first week of August. The weeklong celebrations are being organised by Shri Sadaguru Siddaroodswami Rural Development and Cultural Society.

Swami Basavraj Devaru, chairman of the organising committee said, "A jyoti will be carried in a procession from Mansur village to Dharwad on the August 1. The rest of the week will see a host of programmes, such as dramas, music performances and symposiums." — Special Correspondent

Exhibition of

dentistry equipment

Bangalore: The Association of Dental Industry and Trade of India is organising `Expodent,' an exhibition displaying advanced equipment used in dentistry, from June 2 to 4 at the Export Promotion Industrial Park in Whitefield. Many international companies from 19 countries are participating in the exhibition. Special attractions such as CAD/CAM machines, lasers and imaging machines will be on display.

"The whole idea of this exhibition is to offer the best to our dentists and create a platform for them to have firsthand experience of the latest technology and equipment," said B. Subhachandra Shetty, chairman, `Expodent 2006'.
