Russians ready to invest in tractor assembly plant

HYDERABAD: An investment of Rs. 4,500-crore in the form of a Russian tractor assembly plant in Visakhapatnam will soon be a reality if the Government provides 250 acres of land.

A delegation, including Vadim L. Kalabashin, Vice-General Director, PROM Leasing JSC and Trofimov Evgeny, Director-Tractor Sales Coordination, PROM TRACTOR, called on Minister for Major Industries J. Geeta Reddy on Thursday. - Staff Reporter

Appointed members of FASAL advisory panel

HYDERABAD: State Agriculture Commissioner and Vice-Chancellor of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University (ANGRAU) have been made members of the Advisory Committee for implementing Forecasting of Agricultural Output using Space, Agro-meteorology and Land based Observations (FASAL).

Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy told reporters here on Thursday that in order to supplement the existing system of crop production estimation, the Ministry of Agriculture had initiated the FASAL project. - Special Correspondent

`No move to merge

VSP with SAIL'

VISAKHAPATNAM: Union Minister for Steel Ram Vilas Paswan has no intention of merging the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) into the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), according to Lok Jansakthi State president S. Jagadeesh.

He was stating this after meeting the Minister along with general secretary of Steel Plant Employees' Association Varasala Srinivasa Rao in New Delhi on Thursday. - Special Correspondent

Bush thanks Raghuveera

HYDERABAD: US President George W. Bush has thanked Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy for the assistance extended to him during his visit to Hyderabad in April.

In a letter dated April 24 and addressed to Mr. Reddy, Mr. Bush said: "Laura and I enjoyed our time in India and we appreciate your hard work." Copies of the letter were circulated to the media here on Thursday. - Special Correspondent

TTD to perform Varuna Japam on June 18

TIRUMALA: The TTD is all set to conduct Varuna Japam from June 18 for one week. The ritual is being performed to propitiate Varuna, the god of rain. The temple town, which reeled under severe drought, received copious rain last year after performing the ritual.

Temple Brahmotsavam begins today

TIRUPATI: The annual Brahmotsavam at Sri Govindarajaswamy temple will begin with `Dhwajarohanam' on June 2. The initiatory ritual, `Ankurarpanam', was performed in the temple on Thursday.

On Friday, the flag bearing the image of `Garuda' will be hoisted atop the temple flag-post in the auspicious `Mithuna Lagnam' at 8.25 a.m.

The other important events during the nine-day fete are Muthyapu Pandiri Vahanam (June 4), Kalpavriksha (June 5), Pallaki Utsavam (Mohini Avataram) and Garuda Seva (both on June 6), Rathotsavam (June 9) and Dhwajavarohanam (June 10). - Staff Reporter

Buses for Shirdi from Rotegoan station

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway has announced a connecting bus service between Rotegoan and Shirdi to help pilgrims visiting the temple town.

An SCR press release on Thursday said the buses would be run by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation for the 47 km between the two places, connecting train numbers 7064 and 7065 Secunderabad-Manmad-Secunderabad from June 3. While Secunderabad - Manmad Express touches Rotegoan station at 7.04 a.m. everyday, Manmad - Secunderabad Express reaches Rotegoan at 6.22 p.m. daily. - Staff Reporter
