250 telephone

numbers transferred

NEW DELHI: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, which is in the process of modernising its network, is transferring nearly 250 telephone numbers at Outram Lines of level 2711 to 2714, 2721 to 2725, 2741 to 2746 and 2765 working from the Shakti Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar exchanges to Dhaka exchange on Friday at 4 p.m.

After the changeover, subscribers using "phone plus'' will have to reactivate these facilities and those using "dynamic code'' will have to re-register their secret code.

Warm send-off to Mansarovar pilgrims

NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi gave a warm send-off to the first batch of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims comprising 40 people at Raj Nivas here on Thursday.

Giving his blessings to the pilgrims, Mr. Joshi said the Delhi Government was committed to enhancing facilities for pilgrims. "A proposal to enhance cash assistance to Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims from Delhi is also under consideration,'' he said.

Increase in profit

of NHPC

NEW DELHI: The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has registered an 8.5 per cent increase in its profit over that of the previous year. At its meeting on May 31, the NHPC Board adopted the annual accounts for the year 2005-2006 declaring its highest ever profit after tax of Rs.742.75 crore as against Rs.684.58 crore last year.

The Board recommended a dividend of Rs.233 crore, of which an interim dividend of Rs.64 crore has already been paid to the Union Government. The sales of NHPC have gone up from Rs.1,668 crore to Rs.1,714 crore.

"Bal Sanskar Shivirs"

NEW DELHI: The 40-day "Bal Sanskar Shivirs" organised by a non-government organisation, Sampurna, on Bawana Road and in Sector-18 of Rohini here will culminate on June 15.

Children from various social strata, especially under-privileged boys and girls, are taking part in the camps. The curriculum includes dance, plays, vocational training, general development and moral education. For the past six years the camps have attempted to inculcate values in children through regular classes and training.

Anti-malaria campaign

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri inaugurated an anti-malaria month campaign organised by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi at Nizamuddin here on Thursday. The main aim of the campaign is to create public awareness about the need to prevent vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue through street plays and corner meetings.
