CPI(M) to probe defeat in 12 seats

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI(M) State secretariat is understood to have decided to inquire into the defeat of party candidates in 12 constituencies spread over five districts.

The districts from where complaints of inadequate participation or downright factional intervention in the elections have come are Thiruvanathapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Kozhikode.

The constituencies regarding which complaints have landed with the CPI(M) State leadership are Kazhakkuttom, Nemom and Varkala in Thiruvananthapruam district, Neduvathur in Kollam district, Pathanamthitta in Pathanamthitta district, Harippad, Mavelikkara, Pandalam and Chengannur in Alappuzha district, Thrippunithura and Ernakulam in Ernakulam district and Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode district.

The party may also look into complaints regarding inner party squabbles in some constituencies where the party candidates had emerged victorious riding on a wave spearheaded by the CPI(M), particularly V. S. Achuthanandan. The secretariat meeting will continue on Friday and will be followed by a two-day session of the CPI(M) State committee.
