Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of SIDCO SS area on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for maintenance.

Energy theft detected

The Chennai Enforcement squad of Chennai Enforcement Division detected a case of theft of energy on May 19, where the offender used the `meter bypass' mode in a jewellery shop at R.A. Puram of Chennai Electricity Distribution Circle/Central to steal energy. The provisional assessment towards the loss sustained by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was Rs. 1,08,842. Since the offender remitted Rs. 40,000 no police complaint was lodged. Information on energy theft may be given to Executive Engineer/enforcement/Chennai through 94440-85459.

TTDC tour to Courtallam

Tamilnadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) will operate a special tour to Courtallam for `Saral season' from June 9. The tour will begin on Friday (June 9) at 8 p.m. from Chennai and will return to the city on Monday at 6 a.m. and will include visit to Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai, Andal temple in Srivilliputhur and Kasi Viswanathar Temple at Tenkasi. Innovative eye surgery

A surgery using implantable contact lens to correct myopia was performed at Rajan Eye Care Hospital by Sujatha Mohan on Monday. Staar Surgical of Switzerland introduced the new lens, believed to be suitable for patients with thin cornea who cannot undergo the conventional laser procedure. About 30 senior ophthalmologists participated in the programme.

Minister inspects Home for destitute

Poongothai, Minister for Social Welfare, inspected the various destitute children's homes at Wall Tax Road and Old Washermanpet, children's welfare association in Kasimedu and the ICDS centres, on Thursday.

She also went through the records and urged their proper maintenance and details of food distribution. The Minister ordered an inquiry in centres where records were not maintained. Department officials accompanied her.
