Aimed at speedier clearance of import cargo
|
CHENNAI:
A Risk Management System, promising to considerably reduce the dwell time for clearance of imported cargo, is in place at the Air Cargo Complex in Meenambakkam here.
Commissioner of Customs (Air) C. Rajan inaugurated it on Wednesday.
With the introduction of the system, more than 50 per cent of the bills filled in a day are expected to be cleared without any assessment and examination, a press release said.
The remaining bills may also get preferential treatment of waiver of assessment or examination depending on the risks perceived by the system.
Only very few bills are likely to be taken up for assessment and examination by Customs officers.
The system also aims at improving the data quality of the bills filled and encourages voluntary tax compliance. .
