TAKING STOCK: Minister for Cooperation Kanna Lakshminarayana at a meeting with officials on the progress of survey work for Pulichantala project in Guntur on Thursday.
GUNTUR: Minister for Cooperation Kanna Lakshminarayana on Thursday asked officials related to Pulichintala land and household survey to complete the survey work by June 15 to prepare the lists and arrive at the actual quantum of compensation. Addressing a large gathering of people from 14 villages in Guntur district that might get submerged partially or fully, the Minister questioned the officials as to why it was being delayed so much. He ordered them to complete the survey by middle of this month so that the negotiation process could begin with village committees. Those losing lands partially or whose houses were likely to be submerged were the most worried lot with survey officials allegedly not touching many of these villages. They also wanted the adjoining lands or houses also added in the survey for compensation, as it would be difficult for them to stay so close to the reservoir with half of their livelihood lost. The displaced persons expressed unhappiness at the lack of initiative on the part of the officials.
