Two-day meet planned on bio-fuel

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD : Aimed at bringing together different initiatives in the field of bio-fuel on a common platform, a two-day meet has been scheduled for the second week of June when President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is expected to visit the city.

According to an official, the proposed deliberations will try to learn from the positives and negatives of individuals and groups working in bio-fuels such as jatropha. "Different individuals are exploring the field in different ways and the aim is to pick from each other's experiences. The seminar hopes to serve as a meeting point for diverse initiatives in bio-fuel exploration," according to R. Swaminathan, OSD (research) to the President.

Dr. Kalam is expected to stay at Rashtrapathi Nilayam during the visit and this meeting has been scheduled for June 9 and 10.

Various factors such as the economics of jatropha, availability of suitable land, by-products of jatropha and others will be focussed during the meeting. Since different ministries from Agriculture to Energy are involved at different stages, the idea is also to gain a holistic perspective on the issue. Meanwhile, Rashtrapathi Nilayam at Bolarum, which is to play host to Dr. Kalam during his stay in the city, is being spruced up for the Presidential visit.
