KOCHI: The former Kerala High Court Judge K.K. Narendran has said that the political and administrative system prevailing in the State is not democratic, but based on male chauvinism, which did not give any justice to women. Mr. Narendran, who was speaking at a function here on Thursday to honour Mayilamma, the tribal woman who leads the Plachimada agitation, said that women were getting only a token representation in all sphere, including in the Cabinet. District Panchayat president P.S. Shyla, who inaugurated the meeting, said that even she could rise to the post of the district panchayat president only because of the reservation for women in local bodies. Ms. Mayilamma was not present to accept the Sthree Shakthi Award, instituted by K.A. Kunjila Smaraka Sthree Shakthi Trust. The award includes a cash prize of Rs.11,000 and a certificate. Mr. Narendran delivered the award presentation address. Ms. Shyla inaugurated the activities of the trust. Managing Trustee M.L. George presided over the function held at the Ernakulam Public Library Hall. The award will be sent to Ms. Mayilamma at her residence, according to the organisers.
