Software competition for school students

Under the auspices of South East Asia Regional Computer Federation

KOCHI: A software competition for school students would be held at Colombo in Sri Lanka from September 13 to 16 under the auspices of the South East Asia Regional Computer Federation.

Computer Society of India (CSI), a 40-year-old professional body of computer professionals, is a member of SEARCC (South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation). Other member-countries of SEARCC are Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand. SEARCC was formed in 1978.

SEARCC at the national convention every year organises a software competition for school students below 17 years of age to encourage, recognise and reward software computer skills at school-level. Over the years CSI has been sending teams to participate in the SEARCC competition, held in one of the member-countries in rotation. Several of the teams from India had won the competition in the past. In 2006, SEARCC Software Competition is scheduled to be held in Colombo during 13 - 16 September.

The CSI, national headquarters, Chennai, will be processing for selection of teams from India, says a press release from S. Sudharssanam, Director.

High schools and higher secondary schools are encouraged to register teams for participation.
