Minister to open houses for tsunami-hit

KOLLAM: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran will inaugurate the houses constructed by Oxfam Great Britain under the Housing and Habitat Development Project at Adinad in Kulashekarapuram panchayat on Friday.

The houses have been built for the tsunami victims of Alapad. The inaugural function will be presided over by Kollam Bishop Stanley Roman.

The project was implemented by the Quilon Social Service Society (QSSS). QSSS director Romans Antony said the project has three sites, Nandhanam, Vrindavanam and Sopanam, comprising 41 houses.

The beneficiaries had participated in the project during the construction phase.

Their suggestions and special needs were also taken care of by the QSSS. Fr. Antony said that each family had visited the site two times a week for rectifying faults if any.

The beneficiaries who were skilled were also employed in the construction activities.

The QSSS had convened management committees which comprises interactive sessions with the beneficiaries and others.
