Three children drowned

HYDERABAD:
Death came calling for three children in two separate incidents in the city on Thursday.
While sisters Veeramani, 10, and Gayathri, 12, drowned in Tammidi tank at Madhapur, a six-year-old boy Shaik Haji died when he slipped into a nala near his house at Fateshanagar of Bhavaninagar.
Veeramani skidded on the marshy soil and fell into the tank while washing clothes around 1 p.m. Gayathri jumped into the tank to rescue her younger sister but was drowned too.
A local, Rajaiah, who saw the two girls shouting for help and tried to rescue them, but by the time he reached the tank, the sisters had drowned.
The Madhapur police later fished out their bodies. Father of the two girls, Mareppa, is from Anantapur district. He came to city recently to eke out livelihood.
In the other incident Shaik Haji, who was playing with two other kids, accidentally slipped into a nala at Fateshanagar around 2.30 p.m. "It took five to eight minutes for passers-by to pull out the boy from the water.
By then, he was unconscious," the Bhavaninagar police said.
The kid was rushed to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police registered a case of suspicious death.
