HYDERABAD: A row between doctors and relatives of patients at the Niloufer Hospital on Wednesday night has resulted in the security agency at the hospital being shown the door and a special committee being set up to look into grievances of both patients and doctors. The move came after relatives of an ailing baby picked up an argument with doctors on duty who reportedly asked them to wait since they were attending to two other babies who were in a critical condition. According to hospital officials, the condition of the third baby was not that critical. However, the relatives were in no mood to listen to them. Following media reports about the incident Health Minister K. Rosaiah and Principal Secretary (Health) I.V. Subba Rao visited Niloufer on Thursday. Hospital Superintendent N.C.K Reddy however said the management had set up two committees to look into the issue much before the Minister's visit.
Complaints of corruption
While one committee was set up to look into complaints of corruption against a private agency that was manning the security at the hospital, the second, comprising doctors, administrative staff and students, would handle grievances from both staff and patients without any delay, Dr. Reddy said. The contract with the security agency was already terminated and the first committee would screen applications for a new agency, which would be appointed within a week, he said.
