Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 35 Internet cafes in the city were closed down by the police on Thursday on the charge that the owners did not abide by the norms prescribed by the City Police Commissioner. Early this year, the commissioner had warned Internet café owners against setting up cubicles that gave total privacy to browsers. He had insisted that the cubicles should not be more than four-feet high. The owners had been asked to ensure that the walls of the cubicle were of transparent material. The police had also warned Internet café managements against allowing browsers to access pornographic content. The steps were initiated in the wake of a series of complaints from the public. The police inspected a total of 105 Internet cafes, of which 37 were closed down.
Body found
The body of a 75-year-old woman was fished out of the well in the compound of her house at Thirumala on Thursday. The police identified the deceased as Gomathy Amma. A case of unnatural death has been registered.
