NEW DELHI: Delhi Zoo lost one of its two jaguar cubs this past week. Born on April 25, the cubs were discarded by their natural mother and were being hand-reared. They were the fifth set of jaguar cubs to be hand-reared at the zoo. According to the zoo authorities, they lost one of the cubs due to weakness and infection that had set in. However, the other cub -- still in the zoo hospital under observation -- is doing well. The cub will stay in the hospital for the next six months before it is shifted to an enclosure. "Earlier we had sought the help of a surrogate bitch from non-government organisation "Friendicoes" for the cubs. The mother had discarded the cubs because of which we had to take the help of a surrogate mother,'' said a zoo official.
