ANANTAPUR: President of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that there is no place for violence in democracy. Speaking to the party workers at an extended general body meeting of the district unit here on Friday, he alleged that Congress leaders in the district had killed 36 TDP activists and leaders since 2004. The TDP could have retaliated in an equal measure had it believed in the eye-for-eye ideology. But, the party strongly advocated non-violence and democracy. Hence, it was suffering the endless excesses of Congress.
Spate of killings
Listing out the spate of killings of TDP strong men, Mr Naidu said that former legislator Paritala Ravindra was killed in a public place because the Congress leaders could not take him on politically. The recent killing of another leader K. Suryapratap Reddy and induction of his family into Congress fold explains their brand of politics, he pointed out. Claiming that development in the district had taken place only during the TDP rule, Mr. Naidu said welfare schemes like house sites, houses, ration cards and pensions were only reaching the pockets of ineligible Congress activists. Cloud seeding operations taken up by the present Government in the last two years of its rule, had failed to bring any rain but had resulted in a deluge of easy money to a few Ministers, he alleged.
