NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who returned here from Moscow on Friday after taking part in a three-day cultural event, "The Day of Delhi in Moscow", said Moscow and Delhi had signed a joint statement expressing their desire to strengthen mutually beneficial bilateral relations.

Both capital cities have also expressed willingness to take active steps for development of cooperation in health care, water supply, recycling of used water, transport, education, culture, tourism, social security, women's and youth affairs and information technology. It is also proposed to organise "Days of Moscow in Delhi" in 2007-08

CBI asked to file

reply on PIL

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High court on Friday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation and two others to file their replies on a public interest litigation which alleged that Rs. 14,000 crores worth of land and building property belonging to the Delhi and Mumbai international airports had been granted on a measly annual rental lease of Rs. 200 under the airports modernisation programme.

A Division Bench of Justice M. K. Sharma and Justice Hima Kohli asked the CBI, the Airports Authority of India and the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to file their replies in an affidavit within four weeks and posted the matter for further hearing on July 20.

PNB revises

interest rates

NEW DELHI: Punjab National Bank has increased/revised interest rates on its foreign currency non-residents (banks) (FCNR) deposit and non-resident external (NRE) schemes with effect from June 1.

It has fixed revised NRE deposit rates for maturities of one year to less than three years at 6.40 per cent, while the rate of interest for maturities of three to five years has been fixed at 6.50 per cent.

Woman, son get 7-year RI for abetting suicide

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Friday awarded seven years' rigorous imprisonment to the husband and 75-year-old mother-in-law of a woman who, after facing constant harassment for not bringing in enough dowry, hanged herself to death.

Declining to show any mercy to Surender and his mother Chanderwati, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Rajender Kumar said, ``Such abominable incidents are verily indelible blots on human civilisation and courts cannot remain passive to this horrendous social evil''.

The ASJ also slapped a fine of Rs. 7,000 each on the convicts after finding them guilty under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 498A (subjecting a woman to cruelty) of the IPC.
