NEW DELHI: The United States has slapped sanctions on three individuals, including Dawood Ibrahim, prime accused in the March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts and declared a global terrorist in 2003. Two foreign entities, the Dawood Ibrahim Organisation with bases in India, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Amezcua Contreras Organisation of Mexico will also face the sanctions provided in the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act. According to a Presidential order on Thursday, the action underscores the U.S.' determination to rein in drug traffickers, undermine their operations, prevent drug traffickers from supporting terrorists and put an end to the suffering that illicit drug trade had inflicted on Americans and others around the world. Dawood Ibrahim's name figures prominently in India's "Most Wanted" list of fugitives, and his deportation has been sought by New Delhi from Pakistan, where he supposedly lives. Islamabad has denied Dawood Ibrahim's presence in its territory repeatedly, despite evidence to the contrary supplied by New Delhi. The latest list of 38 fugitives wanted by India, believed to be in Pakistan, was handed over by Union Home Secretary V.K. Duggal to his Pakistani counterpart Kamal Shah during Home Secretary level talks in Islamabad held on May 30-31
