NEW DELHI: Rahul Mahajan, son of the murdered Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, was hospitalised in a critical condition on Friday after snorting cocaine. Pramod Mahajan's personal secretary Bibek Moitra, who also took cocaine, died. Three of the four youth who supplied the drug at Pramod Mahajan's 7 Safdarjung Road bungalow surrendered at the Mandir Marg Police Station late in the night. In an exclusive interview to NDTV, the three, Rahul, Karan and Tishay, said they went to Mr. Mahajan's house with Sahil, who knew Moitra and boasted that he would introduce them to someone powerful. The three, all in their mid-twenties, said Moitra let them into the house and asked them to get some "stuff.'' They went to Vasant Vihar in southwest Delhi and bought cocaine worth Rs. 15,000. They returned and handed over the drug to Moitra and Mr. Mahajan. The youths said Mr. Mahajan rolled up a Rs. 500 note to snort the cocaine and Moitra joined him. However, when they noticed Moitra frothing at the mouth and Mr. Mahajan becoming unconscious, they panicked and woke up all those present in the house. The three said they then rushed the two to Apollo Hospital in two cars belonging to the Mahajans. They then left. They later learnt about Moitra's death from television reports, they told NDTV. After their revelation to the television channel, the youths surrendered at the Mandir Marg Police Station. Sahil is still missing.
Rahul on ventilator
Apollo Hospital authorities said Mr. Mahajan was brought at 2.55 a.m. He suffered from low levels of blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen in the blood. He was kept on a ventilator. He would be kept under observation for 72 hours. Earlier, addressing a press conference, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Manish Aggarwal said that well before the police arrived, the scene of occurrence had been disturbed. The victims had vomited and the domestic help cleaned up the place. The police said the domestic help handed over a poly-pack containing some white powder, suspected to be some narcotics substance, purportedly recovered from Mr. Mahajan. Two champagne bottles were also found in the refrigerator. The police are going through the records of Mr. Mahajan and Moitra's mobile phones. The former was using a Mumbai connection and the latter a Delhi connection. Stating that the police were probing all possible angles, Mr. Aggarwal said: "The white powder has been sent for forensic examination. A post-mortem has been conducted on Bibek's body at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. The post-mortem report would confirm the exact cause of his death."
