Palm civet rescued

IN SAFE HANDS: A palm civet that was rescued in Bangalore by Forest Cell.
BANGALORE:
The staff of the CID Forest Cell have arrested a man from Kengeri and seized from his possession a palm civet (Mara Bekku), which is a Schedule-2 animal (endangered species) under the Wild Life Protection Act. Inspector-General of Police (Forest Cell) K.S.N. Chikkerur said that on a tip off, the police raided the house of Kallesh (36) at Hakki-Pikki Colony in Kengeri Satellite Town on Thursday and seized the palm civet, which he had illegally held captive. The notional value of the palm civet in the illegal wildlife market is Rs. 25,000, he said.
Trapping or possessing an animal or bird mentioned under Schedule-2 of the Wild Life Protection Act is an offence.
On a complaint by the CID Forest Cell officials, the Kengeri police have registered a case against Kallesh.
