Sethi regains World title

Mumbai: Geet Sethi regained the World professional billiards title defeating England's Lee Lagan by over 1000 points in a five-hour final on Friday.

Sethi regained the title he had lost in 1998, besides pocketing the winner's purse of £5,000. This is his fifth professional world title after having won it four times in the 1990s.

Sethi beat defending champion Chris Shutt of England in the semifinals by over 400 points, according to information available here.

Lagan had got past India's Ashok Shandilya, who had beaten compatriot and National champion Devendra Joshi in the quarterfinals.

Sethi is now slated to play for India seniors in the World Team snooker championship in the U.S. in August along with B.V.S. Murthy and S.S. Salim.

The Indian men's team in the event would comprise Manan Chandra, Pankaj Advani, Yasin Merchant and Sarang Shroff, while the women's team members are Anuja Thakur, Vidya Pillai, Ashwini Puranik and Heena Khandelwal. — PTI
