Railway line: Narendra plea to YSR on costs

Sangareddy: Union Minister A. Narendra who met Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in Hyderabad on Saturday requested him to share half of the burden of the proposed Akkannapet-Medak railway line.

Speaking to reporters here, he said that the Railway Board had rejected the proposal citing low returns on investment.

Mr. Narendra said that the Vice-Chairman of the Planning Commission who received the letter from the Indian Railways agreed to consider the project if the State Government was willing to share half the expenditure.

Mr. Narendra said he explained to the Chief Minister that Rs. 20 crores was required to complete the project. "This would prove whether the Chief Minister is really committed to the development of backward areas like Medak," Mr. Narendra said.

Assurance

Mr. said Dr. Reddy assured him that he would discuss this matter with officials concerned and his colleagues after his return from the ongoing district tours.
