Cadres polish footwear in symbolic protest against unemployment

MAKING A POINT: BJYM activists polishing footwear in protest against the Government's failure to provide jobs to the unemployed in Tirupati on Saturday.

TIRUPATI: Activists belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Saturday sought to register their protest against the State Government's failure to provide jobs to the unemployed youths by symbolically polishing footwear of passers-by.

The held the demonstration at the local SETVEN office -- Centre for Employment and Training.

Promises not fulfilled

The demonstrators later addressing a roadside meeting criticised the Congress for promising the moon to the unemployed youth in their run up to the last general elections and later backtracking on all their promises once in power. They criticised that the promise of the Congress to reportedly create 59,000 posts additionally under the G.O. 610 turned out to be `Utopian' and said that the dejected unemployed youths were tending to degenerate into unsocial and radical elements.

The BJYM pointed that out of a whopping 40 lakh candidates, who had registered their names in the employment exchanges in the State, more than a lakh were graduates who completed engineering and professional courses. The number of those who had completed post-graduate and degree courses accounted for 10 lakhs. This was not to speak of the lakhs in the category of Intermediate, SSC and ITIs languishing for want of jobs.
