ANANTAPUR: Minister for Agriculture and Civil Supplies N. Raghuveera Reddy has admitted that most of the small and marginal farmers in the district are not in a position to purchase subsidised seed groundnut being supplied by the Government now. Speaking at a review meeting here on Friday night, he said farmers had suffered heavy crop loss due to excessive rainfall during the harvesting of the last kharif. They were not in a position to invest on inputs for the current season, as they were yet to get crop loans, he pointed out. He urged the bankers to give temporary loans of Rs. 1,500 each to all farmers having loan accounts to enable them purchase seed groundnut.
Opening accounts
Bankers were also asked to open accounts for farmers who had not taken loans so far and for those whose accounts were not renewed on account of non-repayment of last year's crop loan. The input subsidy amount would be deposited in the banks soon for disbursement.
