Move will have an adverse effect on the heritage structure

  • MCH earlier planned to construct a complex by demolishing the monument
  • Corporation urged to take up repairs works on the heritage building

HYDERABAD: The Old Jail Tenants Association urged the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) to withdraw the proposal of constructing a multi-storied parking structure in an open space on the premises of the 150-year-old Jail Building, which recently has been declared as a heritage monument.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, association general secretary Srinivas Malathker said that the MCH authorities had earlier planned to construct a commercial complex by demolishing the building. However, after recognising it as a heritage monument, the Corporation has withdrawn its plans.

The association also requested the corporation to take up repairs works on the heritage building, keeping in view the ongoing bicentenary celebrations.
