KOLLAM: Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran will inaugurate a football film festival here on June 6. The festival is being organised by the Kadappakada Sports Club and Reading Room. At a press conference here on Sunday, the club president, Thengamam Balakrishnan and secretary, R.S. Babu, said the festival, titled `Free Kick' is being organised to coincide with the FIFA World Cup, which is to begin in Germany on June 9. `Free Kick' will be held in two phases. The first one will be from June 6 to 12 and the second from July 5 to 9. The event is part of the club's efforts to promote football in Kollam. A big screen facility is also being provided at the club for members of the public to watch and enjoy World Cup matches. On the inaugural day, the 110 minute film `Escape to Victory' will be screened at 10.40 p.m., a story based on a match during World War-2 between a Nazi team and a team of prisoners. On June 7 the 121 minute film `Pele for Ever' will be screened. On June 8 the film `Garrincha: Lonely Star' will be screened. On June 9 the film will be `About Maradona.' `Escobar on Goal' will be shown on June 10. On June 11 it will be `George Bestas Body.' The film to be screened on June 12 will be about David Beckham. During the second phase of the festival, films produced in the backdrop of the 2006 World Cup will be screened. On June 7, the club has organised a mass run from the Lal Bahadur Stadium to Kadappakada via Chinnakada.
