Sabarimala temple opens today for anniversary fete

PATHANAMTHITTA: The anniversary of the idol installation of the Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala will be celebrated on Tuesday.

The Ayyappa temple will open on Monday afternoon for the one-day anniversary ritual. The Melsanthi will open the sanctum sanctorum at 5.30 p.m. and there will be no ritual at the temple on Monday. Tantri Kantaru Mohanaru will perform the kalasapuja at the japamantapam before the sanctum sanctorum on Monday evening.

Preparation of the Brahmakalasom and 1,000 other kalasoms in 1,001 urns for Tuesday's Brahmakalasabhishekom will be held on Monday evening.

The Tantri, assisted by Melsanthi M. Narayanan Namboodiri, will perform an Ashtadravya Ganapati homom at the temple on Tuesday morning, marking the beginning of the temple rituals in connection with the anniversary celebrations.

The kalabhapuja for the kalabhabhishekom ritual will also be held at the japamantapam on Tuesday forenoon. The kalabhom (sandal paste) will also be held in the forenoon.

Pushpabhishekom, padipuja and udayasthamanapuja will be the other special pujas to be performed in connection with the celebrations.

Devaprasnam

The temple will reopen on June 14 afternoon for the monthly puja in the Malayalam month of Mithunam that begins the next day.

The five-day monthly puja will be held from June 15 to 19. Meanwhile, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has made elaborate arrangements for a Devaprasnam at Sabarimala from June 16 to 18. TDB president G. Raman Nair said noted astrologer Parappanangadi Unnikrishna Panicker would lead the Devaprasnam.
