Belgaum: The district administration's decision to invite Hindi film star and Bharatnatyam dancer Hema Malini for "Kittur Utsav-2006" has sparked a wave of resentment. It was earlier criticised for inviting singer Anuradha Paudwal for "Gadinaadu Utsav-2006." At a meeting presided over by Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh here on Friday, it was decided to invite Hema Malini for the two-day cultural festival to be held on Kittur Fort premises on October 23 and 24. Suresh Marihal, Kittur MLA, and officials were present. Some artists said they did not approve of inviting personalities of star value for the festival. There were many talented artists in the fields of music, dance and drama, and folklore in the State looking for opportunities in cultural festivals sponsored by the State Government.
Kittur fort
The administration has decided to expeditiously take up development work of Kittur Fort, which was put on the State's tourism map recently. Steps will be taken for conservation the fort and monument associated with freedom fighter Rani Chennamma, upgrading the museum, and providing illumination, and drinking water facilities. A welcome arch will be installed at the entrance of the fort.
