K. N. Murali Sankar

  • Residents owning a car can volunteer for emergency services
  • EMRI to keep some emergency medicines with the car owners
  • EMRI services available in 37 towns and cities across the State

VIJAYAWADA: The emergency servicer available in urban areas of Krishna district under the toll-free number `108' will soon be available in rural areas as well.

The Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which is offering these services, is planning to extend its operations to rural areas by roping in large-hearted individuals who volunteer to transport the individuals in distress to a nearby hospital when called upon to do so. For this, the EMRI will set up an Emergency Management Society (EMS).

EMRI's Krishna district coordinator J.V.S. Sastry says: "Those who are residing in villages and own a car can register their names with us. Whenever we receive a call from the surrounding villages seeking ambulance, we will pass on the information to these volunteers immediately so that they can pick up the needy ones and transport them to a hospital." The EMRI will keep some emergency medicines with these car owners, so that they can be administered to the needy ones until such time as they are admitted into a hospital.

    Medical technicians

The EMRI is also planning to welcome those who have completed Intermediate or B.Sc. and residing in rural areas, so that they can be trained as emergency medical technicians. The EMRI will train them for three months free of cost.
