JKLF files papers for PoK poll

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Sunday filed nominations for the July 11 elections for 33 out of 41 Pakistan-occupied Kashmir Legislative Assembly seats.

The outfit has declared that it believes in complete independence of the State and not in accession to Pakistan.

JKLF chief Amanullah Khan told The Hindu : "We have stuck to our stand that accession to Pakistan is ruled out and the only viable solution to the State's problems is complete independence."

There are fears that the nominations might be rejected as the JLKF, instead of solemnly declaring that it believes in accession to Pakistan as required under a PoK law, has demanded reunification and complete independence of the divided State with a democratic, federal and secular government and having friendly relations with all neighbours especially India and Pakistan.

In the past, nominations of pro-independence candidates were rejected.

Mr. Khan said, ``I hope that the Pakistan government, which claims that it has made its Kashmir policy flexible, will heed our demand for independence. It is interesting that instead of claiming proprietorship, Pakistan's stand commits itself to the right of self-determination to the people of Jammu Kashmir."
