At the EAMCET career guidance programme organised by The Hindu Education Plus in Tirupati, two students narrated how the Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC) concept successfully prevented them from becoming a part of the omnipresent category called `qualified but jobless youth.' That participants -- both students and parents -- were interested in learning about the role of JKC in enhancing the `job-worthiness' of a student needs no elaboration. Speaking on the concept, N. Deepthi of Madanapalle Institute of Technology and Sciences explained how the concept took her several steps closer to her goal, indicating the number of well-meaning exercises involved in the programme. "JKC, the student-oriented centre conceived and developed by the Institute of Electronic Governance, has become the buzzword in the technical education circles and has also played a great role in bridging the gap between the industry and institution," she explained. The concept has proved that top-notch multi-national companies can be brought even to the campuses set up in predominantly rural areas if the students are trained in the non-technical aspects of education, which is what the JKC actually aims at. C. Jyotsna, also of the same college, explained that the companies never hesitated to pick up a JKC-trained candidate when the qualities they were looking for were effective and cogent communication, teamwork, analytical ability and willingness to learn in a conducive environment. Both students explained how the group discussion programmes and teaching sessions they were made to take part in improved their self-belief and self-esteem.
