Coimbatore: Akshay Patel of Chennai displayed considerable skills on his way to winning the title in the opening round of the MRF-MAI Indian National Karting Championship at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near Coimbatore, on Sunday. The 16-year-old, who finished third in the first race, piled up the pressure on favourite Ameya Walavalkar of Mumbai for the top spot in the second race. It was a neck-and-neck race between the two, with the lead changing hands several times, but it was Patel who had the last laugh at the chequered flag. The victory not only earned Patel 25 points but also gained him the advantage in the overall points tally. Nikhil Kashyap of Bangalore and Kaushik Khona won the INKC-Kadet and Karting Champions Trophy classes. The results: INKC: Race 1: Aditya Patel (Chennai) 25 pts, 2. Ameya Walavalkar (Mumbai) 20, 3.
