Jr. National softball

HYDERABAD: The 24th junior National softball championship for boys and girls will be organised at the Lal Bahadur Stadium from June 6 to 11, according to Nagesh V. Rao, secretary, AP Softball Association. Twenty-seven teams including defending champion Punjab boys and Kerala girls have confirmed their participation.

The State teams: Boys: Pramod Bhadri (capt), Vishal Sripati, B. Prashanth, B. Mohan Rao, P. Chandrasekhar, G. Venkateswarlu, S. Srupith Kumar, N. Anvesh, B. Santosh Kumar, G. Kiran Kumar, Ch. Radhakrishna, N. Sunil Varma, D. Ramu, K. Mohana Krishna and S. Subhan. Coaches: Milind Kashikar & K. Shobhan Babu.

Girls: N. Yogitha Reddy (capt), A. Rajani, H. Lakshmi, K. Swapna, N. Nagalakshmamma, L. Pramila, K. Ramanamma, N. Madhuri Bai, Syeda Saba Naaz, Sharada, Kalyani, Dennisha, D. Nagalakshmi, Rashmi Watve and N. Sukanya. Coaches: Prasanna Palnitkar and K. Krishna.

Gun Bazar wins

Md. Zahir Khan's hat-trick fashioned Gun Bazar's impressive 6-1 win over MCH Red Hills in the B-Division hockey league championship here. The winner led 2-0 at the break.

Winger A. Dinesh Kumar, Mithun Raj and Shaik Firdous netted one each to complete the tally for the winner.

In another match, Lucky Club got a walk-over from Cosmopolitan Club while, Cross Wings and MCH Bisthiwada were locked a goalless draw. MCH Ameerpet also got a walk-over from MCH Amberpet.

Inter-school cricket

Narender Raj Cricket Academy (Begumpet) will organise the fifth C. Umesh Chandra memorial inter-school cricket tournament for boys (under-13) at Faizan High School (Bowenpally) from June 6. Entries close by June 5 and further details can be had on Phone No. 98856 00254.

Hockey tournament

The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP), along with the Andhra Hockey Association (AHA) and the Hyderabad Hockey Association (HHA) is organising an inter-district tournament for the under-16 boys' from June 7 to 11 at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.

Speaking to The Hindu in Vijayawada, AHA secretary K. Niranjan Reddy said the "teams from 21 districts would be taking part in the tournament from which we are planning to select 30 players. Olympian Mukesh Kumar, former India coach Narenderpal Singh and members of AHA and HHA would form the selection committee." SAAP deputy director for tournaments D. Ravi said the selected players would be accommodated in the existing academies.
