HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh west unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has demanded steps by the Government to check propaganda at holy places and temples aimed at encouraging conversions. B. Manikyachari, president, and Ch. Lakshminathacharyulu, general secretary, in a statement issued here sought creation of machinery to punish persons who indulge in such activities. Recalling the recent activity in Tirupati as also Saturday's incident at Simhachalam, they claimed that `powerful forces' were backing those involved in Christian missionary propaganda. Such activities, which were increasing since Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy became Chief Minister, could pose a threat to communal harmony in the State, the statement added.
